Healing the Inner Warrior

Dear friends, Chers amis: Namaste. Thank you for joining me today as we explore the astrology of early October 2020, which began with an incredibly powerful Full Moon in Aries on October 1st. Let’s get down to the task of understanding and healing the wounded Warrior within the human psyche. Allow yourself to get comfortable and enjoy this read. It is an honour to journey with you.

That Full Moon featured the Sun in Libra in opposition to the Moon in Aries. The Sun’s passage through Libra from late September to late October naturally emphasizes themes of balance and harmony that exist between daylight and night-time, and also in human relationships. Yet, it is overwhelmingly obvious that we live in a time when the scales of global harmony are not in balance. Astrologically, this Full Moon was the culmination of a massive build-up of Aries energy involving Chiron, the Wounded Healer, Mars, the cosmic Warrior, as well as Eris, Goddesss of Discord, and Black Moon Lilith, the Wild Feminine. All these planetary energies are in the sign of Aries, the Leader-Warrior in the human spirit, which has been feeling very agitated, upset and angry for quite some time now. Can you feel this?

Let’s briefly analyze some of these factors. One of the most important planets of this Full Moon configuration featured dwarf planet Chiron, the mythological Wounded Healer, which was conjunct the Moon and opposite the Sun. Chiron is a very deep and complex symbol that has inspired many authors. One of the leading experts on Chiron is astrologer Melanie Reinhart who brilliantly connects healing to the process of awakening. “Healing is nothing less than reorienting ourselves to the journey of awakening. This will change our lives, and this may also be exactly what we resist.” (Melanie Reinhart, Chiron and the Healing Journey) I have read and shared this quote before, but it seems to resonate with a greater sense of meaning now more than ever. The world is going through an extremely challenging period, which is forcing us to change the way we live our lives, whether we want to or not. Resistance is futile, says the Borg, Pluto, Saturn, Eris and Covid 19, just to name a few. However, we have the freedom and responsibility to make many choices regarding the ways in which we can navigate the changes.

Did you know that the symbolism of Chiron involves 3 archetypal expressions: the Wounded One, the One who Wounds, as well as the Healer? I was drawn to share this important insight about Chiron to help us feel and acknowledge all three expressions that exist within us on some level. There has been a tremendous psychological, physical, emotional and spiritual wounding this year related to the pandemic, social distancing, mask wearing, intense social upheavals, protesting, rioting and emotionally charged conversations either in person on online. Chiron is inviting us to reach out and have a deep and honest conversation with the parts of our being that are hurt so that we can be more conscious of the ways in which we may be hurting others through our words, actions or silence. Then, we can activate the wise Healer within and feel out the best pathways to our own well-being and the healing of others.

The energies of 2020 are highly challenging whether we live in a large city where many intense conflicts are happening, or in a quieter area of the world. I sense that the inner Warrior within most human beings is feeling tired, worn down, battered, bruised and in pain. I have seen evidence of a huge spike in opioid overdoses, which is tragic and powerfully revealing. The message here is painfully obvious: it is imperative that we focus more and more on radical self-care for our mind, body, soul and spirit. Mainstream media is hyper focused on the pandemic but the zeitgeist or spirit of the times encompasses a much greater story. We are on an epic journey that is challenging every human being to muster the deepest courage possible as we consciously face the growing pains and awaken to a more evolved, conscious and compassionate version of humanity.

Courage instinctively springs from the Aries part of our nature, which is ruled by Mars. As you know, Mars is in retrograde motion from September 9th to November 13th. The cosmic Warrior is asking us to take the time to reevaluate our goals, assertiveness, drives and passions to make sure they reflect something deeper inside of us. It might be helpful to ask ourselves these questions. “What are your core values and needs? During chaotic times it is important to know what those energetic essentials are in order to shut out the noise and be able to make choices that are in line with your truth. It does not need to be complicated. Find the key elements that you resonate with the most, that settle in your heart and feel wonderful, and use those core elements as a template to discern if an option is a true and empowering match for you. If you stay true to those energetic essentials you will very consistently and consciously make choices that support the creation of a reality that operates predominantly from those values. And that, Dear Ones, is exactly how the new earth will be born. ~Archangel Gabriel through Shelley Young

Let’s address Saturn and Pluto, which have both resumed Direct motion as of September 29th and October the 9th, respectively. Because of this recent change from retrograde to direct motion, we are feeling some extra heavy and serious vibrations in the collective atmosphere. I spent some time in the forest the other day and was drawn to embrace a large pine tree. I always breathe deeper and more calmly when touching a tree. As I was hugging that tree, I received the message: “honor the elders”. I immediately thought about Saturn and Capricorn, and how they both represent the older, more mature and more experienced aspects of humanity. Most astrologers have spoken about Saturn in Capricorn symbolizing the structures of authority that need to undergo a transformation, a changing of the guard, if you will. That is true, but that wise tree reminded me to respect the deep knowledge and wisdom held by our elders. Humanity needs to honour and learn from the wisdom keepers of all cultures to assist in the rebuilding of society.

Saturn and Pluto formed a conjunction earlier this year and have been travelling very closely in Capricorn since then. That is intensely transformative in and of itself, but these 2 planetary heavyweights have also been in a square aspect with Mars in Aries lately. There is tremendous tension and frustration in these geometrical connections. First of all, Aries and Capricorn are both cardinal signs, which means that they both continuously initiate new energy and new challenges. Mars and Aries signify a part of our nature that is hot, fast, young, impatient and eager to blast off in new directions. It is brave, strong and faces any adversity head on. The Saturn and Capricorn parts of humanity engage in life more slowly, cautiously and conservatively. You can feel how very different these energies are, yet they both exist within the individual and collective psyche. It seems quite clear that the younger generations and the older generations need to find ways to build bridges of connection and mutual respect in order to work together to find new solutions to ancient problems.

If your inner Warrior is feeling overly wound up and irritated, you need to release that pent up energy safely and consciously. You can take a brisk walk, do a high-intensity workout or whip out your cleaning cloth and go nuts! The few days leading up to the last Full Moon and the days following were quite intense. Some of you may feel more tired or listless and need some more rest or down time. It is all perfect. You can ask yourself what you need and trust that your body will give you the answers.

It is very natural to feel out of balance from time to time. “Every time you shift back into love it creates an energy that serves both you and the planet. This means even your out of balance moments serve the whole because they give you the opportunity to find your way back to your true essence, time and again, which drives the shift and is always a cause of expansion and celebration. Do you see? It is not about never being out of balance but rather remembering to love yourself back to the truth of your being that matters. ~Archangel Gabriel through Shelley Young

At the time of the Full Moon, Uranus was in a challenging aspect to the Sun. Uranus is reminding us to expect that unexpected, weird and absurd events are becoming more normal. The reality of life on Earth and even our identities are changing and evolving rather quickly. It can certainly feel uncomfortable, nevertheless we also have an opportunity to discover more parts of the untapped potential in all of us. When we become more conscious of our own our wounds, we can be of better service to ourselves, others and the planet. The Earth will heal as we heal ourselves by continually shifting back into love and compassion.

We can also heal our inner Warrior by voicing our truth authentically and respectfully from the heart. When we communicate from a wounded space within us we may unconsciously hurt others by crushing their sense of truth. To me, it’s not about winning an argument; it’s about sharing perspectives, insights and feelings. Masses of people learned a long time ago, in this life or a past life, that it wasn’t safe to say what they genuinely thought or believed. Healing involves reclaiming our voice, but it is not necessary to speak loudly or excessively. We can add our personal truth to the mix, without attachment to approval. “When we are healing, we are reclaiming the power that past conditioning, hardship, tragedy, abuse, neglect took from us. When power has been taken from us, we have been stripped of something called dignity. Dignity is the ability to feel worthy of honour and respect”. (Matt Kahn: What it means to heal.)

Ultimately, Aries in opposition to Libra is reminding us to get crystal clear on what we want or need that will help us feel more balanced in life. We just need to put it out there, quietly or share with a trusted friend. One of the gifts of these crazy times is that everything can change very quickly, which includes manifesting what we need.

When we clearly communicate our deepest desires and fundamental needs to the universe, we create more of what we want to see in the world.
