Warm and gentle greetings, dear friends. ❤ Welcome to the super potent energies that combine the Summer Solstice, National Indigenous Peoples Day, Fathers Day, as well as a New Moon Annular Solar Eclipse! I invite you to take a couple of minutes to read and reflect on these Notes from the Stars. Thank you for tuning in.
First, let’s bring our attention to the unique qualities of the sign of Cancer as the Sun dives into the cosmic waters of the Crab on the afternoon of Saturday June 20th. The first day of the Sun’s ingress into Cancer simultaneously ushers in the Summer Solstice, the halfway point in the yearly cycle that began at the Winter Solstice. This is a very natural and primordial time to celebrate the life-giving powers of the Sun. It is interesting that this time of maximum sunlight, a very masculine energy, connects to Cancer, which is a feminine energy and one of the gentlest signs of the Zodiac. This reminds me once again of the beautiful intelligence of the Yin-Yang symbol. Everything in this universe is so deeply interconnected.
Cancer is a cardinal water sign that symbolizes the flowing waters of babbling brooks and raging rivers. On a purely energetic level, water energy can be very gentle or dangerously powerful if we get caught in the emotional currents. These are emotionally turbulent times and we can’t pretend otherwise, even if you live in a relatively peaceful place. However we need to focus on self-care and emotional well-being to replenish our core. Spending time in or near water is always a very cleansing, cooling and healing energy, which is exactly what the world needs right now. The divine timing of astrological rhythms never ceases to amaze me. Cancer embodies the Mother Goddess archetype that lives inside every human being and instinctively protects and nourishes all life in the womb of creation.
This part of our psyche is highly sensitive, vulnerable and emotional. It is important to give yourself and everyone around you permission to feel any and all emotions as they rise up to the surface of your consciousness to be acknowledged, expressed and understood. There could be very tender moments as well as volcanic eruptions. This weekend and the following weeks will likely be an emotional roller coaster ride of intense social movements. The Black Lives Matter movement is getting stronger and stronger as this eclipse sets off a pivotal New Moon that will create powerful ripples in the Zeitgeist of 2020. Take it easy as much as possible and be very gentle with yourself and others as we navigate this tumultous evolutionary period.
The Moon, the sign of Cancer and the 4th House of the birthchart all correlate in many ways to the Root chakra which has been severely shaken and unbalanced within everyone living on planet Earth this year. The Root chakra is all about establishing a feeling of deep safety and security at the very core of our being. This part of us longs for a sense of home, family, rootedness and a connection to the Earth. It is also about our ancestral lineage and the collective memories of humanity. I often imagine the roots of our 4th House going all the way down to the center of the Earth, where they are intertwined with the collective roots of humanity, the Soul of the World, Anima Mundi. From a cosmic and terrestrial perspective, the sacred Tree of Life unites all of us as a global family. Can you visualize that? What do you see in your vision of the connections between all living beings?
I felt inspired to share another insight related to the universal principle: “As above, so below.” Our understanding of the universe is expanding rapidly as astronomers are discovering more and more comets, asteroids and planets in our solar system and beyond. If we truly live in an interconnected, multi-dimensional universe, it is imperative that we go deeper into our exploration of the mysterious and complex universe within the human psyche to balance this energetic equation. This summer, we are called to revisit and heal the inner dimensions of the human experience. This inner journey is the great quest that the Hero within all of us must make in order to become whole.
“And only in a recognition of our own wholeness is it possible to recognize the stranger, the other. Perhaps only then can we begin to truly relate.” (Liz Greene, Relating)
That book was written in 1978 but a friend just recently gifted me with it and I find this message is even more poignant and significant this year. As we initiate the healing journey, “we are empowered to face the darkness and suffering within ourselves, in others, and in the world. (Melanie Reinhart, Chiron and the Healing Journey)
Real change begins on the inside. This New Moon eclipse in Cancer is calling all of us to journey inward and do some healing work, shadow work and radical self-care. One of the invaluable gifts of any inner healing work is that it also helps to heal ancient, collective and intergenerational wounds in the heart of humanity.
In this Eclipse chart, Mars is in a tense square aspect with the Sun and Moon. Because we live in a world where the masculine Warrior archetype is very powerful and out of balance with the peaceful feminine, and weapons of mass destruction are incredibly abundant and accessible, violence can happen anytime, anywhere. This New Moon in Cancer is especially potent because it is also a ring of fire eclipse that will be visible in parts of Africa, India, China and Hong Kong. These areas of the world could also see strong emotional fluctuations in the next few months connected to border disputes for example as Cancer also rules everything to do with national identity and security. Reports just came out this week of a deadly dispute on the border between India and China high in the Himalayan mountains. This particular region is symbolic of the energies of Capricorn: boundaries, mountains and structures of power. We need to express our inner Warrior to initiate courageous action with as much consciousness, purpose and maturity as possible.
As most of you are aware, Mercury has joined the retrograde club from June 17th to July 12th. It is no coincidence that the Messenger of the solar system is retrograde during this time. Because there is so much volatility in the collective atmosphere for so many reasons, Mercury in Cancer is asking us to dive into the delicate circuitry of our emotional intelligence and deeply reflect on our thinking and communication patterns. It is not advisable to make important decisions and move forward with big projects at this time, if possible. Because the intelligence of Mercury flows more inwardly when in retrograde, it is an excellent time for deep thinking, reading, revising, reorganizing and intuitive work as
Mercury is flowing in the sensitive and imaginative waters of Cancer.
One of the many striking features of this New Moon eclipse is that it is happening at 0 degrees of Cancer, in the early morning hours of Sunday June 21st. Any astrological event connected to 0 degrees of any sign, especially Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, symbolizes a radical new beginning, an epic seed moment that opens up a multitude of future possibilities. I am a tad late in creating this post, but the creative power of this New Moon is opening a portal of opportunity that will last quite some time. This may be the most important New Moon of the year. If you have not yet done so, take some time to feel out the most important intention for your own life, your local community, the global family and our precious Mother Earth. Visualize that seed intention planted deep into the Earth and lovingly water it with the purest love in your heart. Let’s join together and send loving energy to every person, and all life in this beautiful planet, which will support the healing and rebirthing of the world soul.
Thank you once again for joining me.
